that doesn't stop the near term political problem for obama having struck this deal. he's now got pro-israel senators and congressmen of both parties criticizing him for cutting a deal they say is a bad one for israel. he has that problem. then he has the foreign policy problem of israel saying you cut a bad deal, and saudi arabia and the united arab emirates also saying, not good enough. >> and, susan, when we look at this next period, we know it does shorten for a president in his second term, he can still make breakthroughs on foreign policy, but he's got the obvious constraints of senators now looking towards 2014 and feeling very undercut and very threatened, democratic senators. >> and on the foreign policy front, a big breakthrough with iran but huge problems with our ally in afghanistan. i mean, the deal that the administration thought they had reached with hamid karzai now great uncertainty about that. what does it say that we can reach a deal with iran with whom we haven't had relations in decades and yet an ally with whom we invested so many american lives

president obama said if you like your insurance you can coop it. that does apply to the majority of the people with health insurance, whether from your employer or people who don't have health insurance at all. where he was wrong and the qualification he left out was regarding that 5 to 6% in the private health insurance market. a lot of the good reporting pointed out, some people worse off, some better off. president obama has really tried to go back at that qualification issue. it's really dogged him. i'm not sure this goes up to the level of president clinton, i did not have sex with that women or bush's weapons of mass destruction in iraq. they have to get to the bottom of it and fix it fast. they don't have just the website to fix but the messaging problem as well. >> mark, chris, luke, thank you so much for being here this afternoon. appreciate it. >>> virginia senator mark werner served as the state's governor. he joins us now as his constituents head to the polls. thanks for joining me. we appreciate it. >> thanks for having me, kristen. >>

joining me now is ben rhodes, deputy national security adviser for the obama administration. thank you, ben. good to see you. first of all, i know john kerry and others are going to the hill today to argue against sanctions, against tightening the sanctions on iran. there is broad bipartisan support to tighten the sanctions. if they got to the table in the first place, why not add more on? what's the harm? >> well, we have to remember that sanctions are a means to an end. nobody has done more to enforce these crippling sanctions than the administration. but right now we see indications that sanctions could be having the effect we wanted, which is iran is changing its calculus with respect to its nuclear program. we want to test these negotiations and see if we can get an agreement and see if they roll back elements of that program as we negotiate a conference of deal. our concern is new sanctions are not necessary right now and could derail those negotiations and unravel the international unity that has brought iran to the table. >> the head of the international atomic energy
